Remains of the legend, former President Muhammadu Buhari, have been laid to rest amidst shades of emotional expressions and the outpouring of prayers for the repose of his soul.

The funeral prayers, led by former Minister of Communications, Professor Ali Fantami, were observed by family members of the deceased, his relatives, the Emir of Daura, government officials, members of various political parties, and those of the diplomatic Corps.

After his internment, President Tinubu, as the chief mourner at the residence of the deceased, the man who handed over power to him, received condolences from high profile personalities that came to pay their last respect to the former President.

The state funeral featured full military honours, including a 21-gun salute.

On arrival of the remains of General Muhammadu Buhari, President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, President Umaru Sissoco of Guinea-Bissau, Nigerien Prime Minister, Ali Lamine Zeine, former Nigerien President, Mahamadou Issoufou, and former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, received the casket of the late President at the foot of the aircraft that conveyed him back home.

A joint team of military pallbearers comprising nine senior officers laid the casket, draped with the Nigerian flag, on a trolley.

The pallbearers wheeled the former President’s casket in a slow march, in sync with the hymn “God Be With You Till We Meet Again,” passing through a full military guard of honour, comprising six officers and 96 soldiers drawn from the Nigerian Armed Forces.
