The Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) has officially unveiled the draw for the 2025 NWFL Championship, which will run from September 11 to 21, 2025, across two Abia State venues — Umuahia and Abiriba.
The tournament will feature twenty ambitious clubs vying for a place in the country’s top-tier women’s league, the NWFL Premiership.
The Championship, Nigeria’s second-tier women’s competition, has been divided into four groups, with Umuahia hosting Groups A1 and A2, while Groups B1 and B2 will be staged in Abiriba. The winners of each group will secure automatic promotion to the 2025/26 NWFL Premiership season.
At the Umuahia base, Royal Queens, Gallant Queens, Castmog Ladies, and First Mahi Babes were drawn into Group A1, while Sunshine Queens, Fortress Ladies, Unification FC, and Kwara Ladies will contest in Group A2.
In Abiriba, Pelican Stars, Ahudiyannem Queens, Wazbak International, and Chosen Generation Angels will compete in Group B1. Group B2, the largest group of the draw, will see Osun Babes, Ghetto Tigers, Moje Queens, Delta Babes, and Imo Striker Queens battle for supremacy.
The 10-day tournament is expected to deliver thrilling encounters as teams chase one of the most coveted tickets in Nigerian women’s football. Traditional powerhouses like Pelican Stars and Sunshine Queens will be aiming for an immediate return to Premiership action, while rising outfits such as Chosen Generation Angels and Moje Queens will be hoping to upset the odds and etch their names in history.
With promotion at stake, the NWFL Championship promises drama, excitement, and an opportunity for fresh talents to showcase their abilities on a national platform. The fixtures and kickoff times are expected to be announced by the NWFL board in the coming days.
