The member representing Kaura Namoda/Birnin Magaji, Federal Constituency of Zamfara State, in the 10th House of Representatives, Aminu Sani Jaji, has voiced deep concern over the worsening security situation in his constituency.
Jaji urged the Federal Government to urgently intervene, warning that armed bandits have overrun parts of his constituency, where they kill at will and now exert control over local communities.
The lawmaker, who chaired the House Committee on National Security and Intelligence in the 8th Assembly, called for a complete overhaul of the nation’s security framework.
He expressed fears that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu may not be receiving accurate intelligence about the dire conditions in the North-West.
“Nigeria does not need foreign mercenaries to fight insecurity,” Jaji emphasized, arguing that the country has sufficient manpower. He called for smarter, intelligence-driven operations and enhanced coordination among security agencies.
Jaji also dismissed calls for the declaration of a state of emergency in Zamfara State, describing it as unjustified given that over 20 other states are grappling with similar security challenges.
He advocated for stronger collaboration between security agencies, community leaders, and all tiers of government to develop more effective responses to the crisis.
Reflecting on past efforts, Jaji criticized the attempt by the Goodluck Jonathan administration to hire mercenaries during the Boko Haram insurgency, insisting that the focus should instead be on equipping and motivating Nigerian security forces.
“Our gallant soldiers have the capacity to secure this country,” he said. “What we need is a more digital approach to operations, better monitoring of resource deployment, and an unwavering commitment to the welfare of our security personnel.”
He further appealed to authorities to provide immediate relief materials to displaced residents, many of whom have been forced to flee their homes due to the relentless attacks by armed groups.
