The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Friday reaffirmed the Administration’s commitment of inclusive and orderly relocation of the Apo Mechanics and Traders Association to a newly developed site in Wasa District.

He gave the assurance during a strategic engagement with members of the association at the Apo Mechanic Village, shortly after a commissioning ceremony.

The meeting forms part of the Administration’s long-standing efforts to resolve a relocation issue that has lingered for over two decades.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Wike, emphasised that the relocation initiative is not an eviction process, but a well-planned move aimed at enhancing urban development, ensuring public safety, and fostering a more organized commercial environment.

“We are not pushing anyone out. What we are doing is ensuring that business activities are conducted in a planned, organized environment that supports growth and safety—as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu promised,” the Minister said.

He lauded the contributions of the mechanics and traders to the local economy and expressed appreciation for their ongoing cooperation with the FCT Administration.

The Minister assured stakeholders that the Wasa relocation site is being prepared to better meet their operational needs.

According to Wike, the new site will feature comprehensive infrastructure, including an internal road network, reliable water supply, electricity, and designated zones to cater to different trades, thereby fostering a conducive environment for business.

To fast-track the relocation, the Minister directed relevant departments of the FCT Administration and the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) to expedite infrastructure development at the Wasa site.

He also stressed the importance of working collaboratively with representatives of the traders to ensure transparency and inclusiveness throughout the transition.

In response, representatives of the Apo Mechanics and Traders Association, expressed gratitude for the Minister’s visit and direct engagement, pledging their continued support and cooperation with the Administration.

The relocation forms part of a broader urban renewal strategy by the FCT Administration, aimed at decongesting overcrowded informal settlements, restoring environmental order, and promoting the sustainable development of the nation’s capital.
