The Presidency has dismissed the newly launched coalition of opposition politicians under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as politically irrelevant and lacking in credibility.
Reacting to the unveiling of the party’s leadership in Abuja on Wednesday, Presidential Adviser on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, described the ADC as “a dead-on-arrival party” and a conclave of “internally displaced politicians.”
Posting on his verified X account @BwalaDaniel, the presidential aide did not mention specific names but appeared to reference prominent political figures behind the coalition, including those who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Among those reportedly aligning with the ADC are former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Senate President David Mark, former governors Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna) and Rauf Aregbesola (Osun), as well as 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi. Many of them are believed to be re-strategizing ahead of the 2027 general elections.
While supporters of the new opposition front see it as a much-needed political realignment to challenge the dominance of the APC, the Presidency insists it is nothing more than a gathering of aggrieved power-seekers with no viable roadmap.
Observers say the remarks from Aso Rock may signal the beginning of a fierce political showdown as the race for 2027 slowly begins to take shape.
