In a stunning display of resilience and determination, Nigeria’s Super Falcons staged an unforgettable comeback to clinch their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title, reaffirming their dominance in African women’s football. Among the first to respond to the historic achievement was former Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, who expressed heartfelt pride and admiration during a post-match interview.
“I’m proud of them. Everyone in Nigeria is proud of them,” Musa said with a beaming smile. “I just want to say thank you for all the support. It was an unbelievable game.”
The Falcons, trailing 2-0 at halftime, launched a spirited second-half rally to secure a dramatic 3-2 victory—a turnaround Musa described as both emotional and inspiring.
“At first, I was really down,” he admitted. “But from the start of the second half, you could see they came out with fire. They showed hunger, they fought back, and they proved they wanted it more. And in the end—we won. That’s what truly matters.”
Known for his unwavering support for Nigerian football, Musa commended the strategic impact of the coaching staff and the fighting spirit of the players.
“The coach’s substitutions were crucial,” he noted. “Those two changes turned the game around. One of the substitutes even scored the winning goal. That, for me, was a masterstroke.”
When asked which player stood out most during the tournament, Musa pointed to forward Esther Okoronkwo, who made a significant impact in the final.
“For me, it’s Esther,” he said. “She really stepped up when it mattered most. She delivered a fantastic performance in the final.”
Reflecting on the broader significance of the Falcons’ 10th WAFCON title, Musa highlighted what the victory means for the nation and the future of women’s football in Nigeria.
“Ten titles in 14 tournaments—that’s monumental,” he emphasized. “The trophy is coming home, and that’s a massive achievement for Nigeria. This is why I always urge people to believe in our local coaches. Given the chance, they can deliver. This coach proved it—we are champions once again.”
Looking ahead to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled for later this year in Morocco, Musa used the moment to send a rallying call to the Super Eagles.
“This win sends a powerful message,” he said. “We’ve brought the trophy home from Morocco. Insha’Allah, come December, it will be time for the Super Eagles to rise and make the nation proud once again.”
