The Chairman of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), Honourable Taiwo Olayinka Salami, has unveiled a bold blueprint to transform the historic club, promising enhanced player welfare, modern facilities, and strategic sponsorship deals as the new Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season approaches.
Speaking at the NPFL Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Abuja, Salami emphasized his administration’s commitment to restoring the club’s glory and introducing global best practices in management.
“This morning alone, I was speaking with my team regarding medical insurance. There are so many elements required to get the best out of players—things like travel and accommodation,” he said.
First-Ever Air Travel for Away Games
In what marks a historic milestone, Salami announced that Shooting Stars will, for the first time, travel by air for long-distance away matches.
“Our fleet is being renovated, and we are requesting new buses. For the first time in the history of Shooting Stars, long-distance trips will be by air. This has never happened before,” he stated.
Carrying the Salami Legacy Forward
Responding to questions about his legendary father—late Coach Salami—Taiwo acknowledged the enormous expectations and vowed to surpass the legacy left behind.
“It’s been 37 years since my father’s passing, yet his name still resonates. He gave everything for Shooting Stars, even personally financing the team’s first trip to the UK. That commitment is a standard I must maintain and exceed,” he affirmed.
Salami also revealed plans to establish a permanent club facility, featuring a gym, hostels, training pitches, coaching quarters, and recreational spaces—an infrastructure overhaul aimed at fostering unity and professionalism.
Driving Sponsorship and Digital Growth
Highlighting the financial realities of football, the Chairman underscored the need for private sector partnerships.
“Government cannot do it alone. We’re finalizing major sponsorship deals and expanding our social media presence because modern football thrives on visibility and commercial partnerships,” Salami said.
A Rallying Call to Fans
Salami urged fans to return in full force as the club ushers in what he described as a “new football philosophy.”
“The glory days are back. Come out, support us, pray for us, and together we’ll make history,” he concluded.
The NPFL season kicks off in September, with Shooting Stars aiming for a strong title challenge and a return to continental football.
