Tinubu Appoints Speaker Abbas to Lead APC Bauchi Reconciliation Panel

President Bola Tinubu has appointed the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, as chairman of the presidential reconciliation committee tasked with resolving the protracted crisis within the Bauchi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The high-powered panel, constituted to heal longstanding divisions ahead of the APC congresses, includes Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni; former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara; Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Abdullahi Abubakar Gumel; Senior Special Assistant to the President (Political), Ibrahim Masari; and Usman Abubakar Gotomo.

According to a statement on Sunday by the Special Adviser to the Speaker, Musa Krishi, the Chief of Staff to the Speaker, Prof. Jake Dan-Azumi, serves as secretary.

The committee, inaugurated in late July, has already begun work, holding its first strategy session in Abuja to review the roots of the intra-party dispute, which traces back to the APC’s 2015 primaries in the state.

Speaker Abbas emphasised that President Tinubu carefully selected members based on integrity, track record, and capacity to act impartially, urging them to complete their assignment within one month.

In his remarks, Abbas says the president’s intervention was necessary to avert further deepening of the party’s internal divisions in Bauchi.

He assures that the committee would engage all relevant stakeholders to ensure an inclusive and lasting resolution.

On July 31, the committee met with key Bauchi APC stakeholders at the Yobe State Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, with Governor Buni presiding in Abbas’s absence.

Attendees included former governors Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, SAN, and Alhaji Isa Yuguda; Minister of Health, Prof. Mohammed Ali Pate; and several serving and former lawmakers, alongside influential political figures from the state.

The panel is expected to submit its report in the coming weeks for further presidential action, signalling the Tinubu administration’s commitment to strengthening party unity and cohesion ahead of critical political milestones.
