PSC approves mass promotion of police officers, declines cases of retired and deceased officers.

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 952 Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), in one of its biggest career advancement exercises in recent years.

The Commission, however, declined the promotion of 176 ASPs who had retired from service, and three others believed to be deceased.

These decisions were reached at the inaugural plenary of the 6th Board of the Commission, chaired by retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, Hashimu Argungu, at its headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.

According to a statement signed on Wednesday by the head of press, PSC, Ikechukwu Ani, Argungu congratulated the newly promoted officers but cautioned them to embrace professionalism, nationalism, and strict adherence to police regulations.

He warned that the Commission would no longer tolerate “diversionary and unauthorized actions” by officers, stressing that proper channels exist for airing grievances.

He further assured that the PSC remains committed to safeguarding officers’ career progression from undue hindrance.

The approval has been formally communicated to the Inspector General of Police for implementation in a letter signed by PSC Secretary, Onyemuche Nnamani.
