The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has ordered an immediate tactical response following the killing of eight personnel and the abduction of a Chinese expatriate in Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Corps’ spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, said Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Audi, has directed the deployment of special tactical squads to track down the attackers, rescue the kidnapped expatriate, and ensure justice is served.

The operatives were ambushed on Friday, September 5, 2025, while providing security at the BUA Cement Company. Eyewitnesses reported that the officers engaged the gunmen in a fierce three-hour exchange of fire. Eight personnel were killed, but four expatriates working in the quarry section were successfully rescued.

Prof. Audi described the incident as a “painful loss” and praised the gallantry of the fallen officers. He confirmed that a full-scale intelligence operation, led by Commandant CC Dandaura Appollos of the Special Intelligence Squad, was underway. Units deployed include the Counter Terrorism Unit, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), and Special Protection Units.

“The deployed teams have been given an express order to effect possible arrest, rescue the kidnapped expatriate, and bring the perpetrators to book,” Babawale said, adding that the Corps is appealing to the public for useful information.
