The Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) has conferred the fellowship of the professional body on the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, CFR.
Senator Barau, an accountant by profession, was conferred with the designation, Fellow Certified National Accountant (FCNA) during the 30th Annual National Conference of the Association in Abuja on Tuesday. FCNA is a professional designation awarded by ANAN to its members who have achieved the highest level of professionalism.
ANAN’s President and Chairman of the Council, Chief (Hajia) Zuwairat Talatu Kishimi, FCNA, who administered the oath of allegiance to Senator Barau, described him as a good ambassador of the profession and association.
” By the virtues of the powers conferred on me as the President and Chairman of the Council of this great association, Association of National of Nigeria (ANAN) by Act 76 of 1993 (CAP A 26 LFN, 2004), I hereby admit you into the fellowship of the association. With this, you can add FCNA to your name. We are proud of you and we celebrate you,” she said to the thunderous ovation of the crowd.
Additionally, the President of the association presented an award to the Deputy President of the Senate for chairing the Association’s National Conference.
Dignitaries at the occasion showered encomiums on Senator Barau, including the Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
ANAN’s Chairman of the Conferences, Seminars, and Workshops Committee, Mal Adamu Abubakar, described Senator Barau as a reform-minded statesman whose legislative legacy continues to shape Nigeria’s fiscal policy.
” Senator Barau’s career reflects exceptional mastery of public finance management, sharpened through his leadership of Appropriation committees in both Chambers of the National Assembly,” he said.
Earlier in his address, Senator Barau
commended the association for its dedication to developing a high-class financial and accountancy sector for the country.
” ANAN deserves recognition for its strategic role in reinforcing ethics and governance through strategic collaborations and regulatory enhancements. These efforts have strengthened enforcement, surveillance and compliance, and could support the National Assembly legislative efforts towards reforming finance-related laws to bolster Nigeria’s financial integrity.
” I would also like to acknowledge ANAN for its strong focus on public sector financial management, whereby accountants are pivotal in ensuring accountability and optimising the use of public funds.
” This supports the Government’s emphasis on fiscal responsibility as demonstrated by the Act of the National Assembly – Fiscal Responsibility Act,” he said.
