Vice President Kashim Shettima arrives in New York for UNGA 80 to lead Nigeria’s delegation, deliver the national statement, and engage in high-level diplomatic meetings.

Touching down at John F. Kennedy International Airport, Shettima was received by a government delegation that included Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Yusuf M. Acting on the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Vice President will lead Nigeria’s delegation to the annual gathering of world leaders, where he is scheduled to deliver the country’s national statement and participate in a series of high-level engagements aimed at strengthening multilateral cooperation.

The 80th UNGA, themed “Leaving no one behind: Acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development and human dignity for present and future generations,” will run from September 24 to 28, 2024.

Officials say Nigeria intends to use the platform to highlight its stance on pressing global issues, deepen international partnerships, and project its leadership role on the African continent.
