Nollywood actress Mercy Aigbe is in mourning following the death of her mother, Abisola Grace Owodunni, whom she described as her greatest teacher and source of strength.
The actress announced the sad news on Instagram on September 24, 2025, with a solemn post that included candle and heart emojis, symbolizing love and loss. While she did not disclose the exact cause or date of death, Aigbe’s tribute reflected the deep void left behind.
During her lifetime, Abisola Grace Owodunni was a respected Nigerian businesswoman who ran a supermarket and was known for her strict but nurturing parenting style. According to Aigbe, her mother instilled in her the values of sacrifice, resilience, and selflessness—qualities the actress says shaped both her career and personal life.
“My mother taught me the importance of sacrifice and selflessness,” Mercy once shared in a past interview, expressing gratitude for her mother’s unwavering support.
The tragic loss comes less than a year after Aigbe’s home was gutted by fire in December 2024, an incident she had described as “devastating,” though thankful no lives were lost.
Condolence messages have since poured in from fans, colleagues, and friends in the film industry, who continue to rally around the actress during this difficult period.
