The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike has reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to inclusive development across all sectors, including health, education, and critical infrastructure, under the “Renewed Hope” agenda of President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking during the flag-off of the construction of Arterial Road N20 from Road N5 Obafemi Awolowo Way to the Airport Expressway, the Minister said the project is part of broader efforts to expand infrastructure and improve connectivity within the capital city.

He stressed that no sector would be left behind in the government’s development drive.

“We will make sure every sector is given the attention that is required. From education to health and infrastructure, we are committed to balanced development across the city and satellite towns,” the Minister stated.

He addressed delays in the commencement of the road project, which was awarded by the Federal Engineering Council in March, explaining that work did not begin earlier because the administration insisted on securing adequate funds before mobilization.

“I don’t want a situation where contractors move to site and later pull out due to lack of funds. That would be embarrassing,” he said. “Now that the funds are ready, the contractor must remain on site until the work is completed.”

He also revealed that the contract timeline would be reviewed to explore the possibility of completing the project ahead of schedule, emphasizing his aversion to prolonged contracts and unnecessary variations.

The Minister urged residents to support the project by cooperating with the contractors and refraining from disrupting work or making illegal financial demands. He also called on the construction firm to prioritize the employment of local youth.

Highlighting the wider impact of infrastructure projects, the Minister noted that the ongoing rollout of projects in the FCT has stimulated economic activity and job creation, citing the engagement of multiple contractors over a span of just 16 days.

“Through infrastructure, Mr. President is also creating employment for our people. These projects are not just about roads; they are about livelihoods,” he added.

He concluded by appreciating the Area Council Chairmen for their support and urged continued collaboration in advancing the development of the FCT.
