The Zone Five Police Command has intensified enforcement of the ban on unauthorised sirens, tinted glass permits, and other restricted vehicle accessories in Edo and Delta States.

The exercise, according to a statement by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tijani Momoh, is in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

Momoh quoted the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 5, Salma-Dogo Garba, as saying the enforcement will also cover the ban on revolving lights, Police SPY number plates, unallocated official plates, and unregistered vehicles.

“Motorists yet to register their vehicles with tinted glasses are strongly advised to do so at www.possap.gov.ng, after which they should proceed to their state command headquarters for physical verification,” Garba said.

He added that those who do not wish to obtain a tinted glass permit must remove the tint or replace it with transparent glass in compliance with the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act 2004.

Garba also cautioned field operatives to carry out the exercise with professionalism and warned against harassment or extortion of motorists.

“Any officer found wanting will be sanctioned, and the supervisory officer will also be held liable,” he stressed.

The AIG urged residents to cooperate with the Police and report any misconduct to the nearest police station, the Complaint Response Units (CRUs), or directly to the Zonal PPRO.

Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has announced that strict nationwide enforcement of tinted glass permits will begin on Thursday.
