Shettima Returns to Abuja After UNGA, Germany Trips

Vice President Kashim Shettima has returned to Abuja after a week of high-level engagements in New York and Germany, where he stood in for President Bola Tinubu at the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Shettima’s aircraft touched down at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, early Thursday and was received by senior government officials.

At the UNGA, the Vice President delivered Tinubu’s national address, pressing for far-reaching reforms of the United Nations and calling for Africa to assert control over its $700 billion worth of mineral resources.

He also advanced Nigeria’s foreign policy priorities through strategic meetings with global leaders and institutions, including UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who endorsed Nigeria’s aspiration for a permanent UN Security Council seat.

Beyond diplomacy, Shettima highlighted Nigeria’s $200 billion energy transition opportunities, wooing international investors while assuring the Nigerian diaspora of stronger inclusion in the administration’s development agenda.

Shettima later traveled to Germany, where he deepened strategic partnerships before returning to Nigeria — underscoring the administration’s drive to secure both political relevance and economic benefits on the global stage.
