The  Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to ensuring a safer digital environment for all Nigerians amid rising cases of cybercrime across the country.

A statement on Sunday by the force public relations officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the IGP who was represented by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), DIG Sadiq Abubakar, gave the assurance at a one-day Cybercrime Awareness Campaign organized by the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF–NCCC) in Abuja.

He said the Police remain focused on protecting citizens from online threats, promoting secure digital practices, and strengthening national resilience against cyberattacks, noting that cybersecurity has become central to Nigeria’s internal security priorities.

In his welcome address, the Director of NPF–NCCC, CP Uche Ifeanyi Henry, called for a collective national response to cybercrime, stressing that every Nigerian must play an active role in safeguarding the digital space.

“Today’s digital era demands that all Nigerians are not just users but also guardians of their own cybersecurity,” he said, pledging to expand cyber education, enhance enforcement capacity, and improve reporting mechanisms nationwide.

The campaign drew over 3,000 participant from schools, public and private institutions, and digital platforms. Highlights included an awareness walk, distribution of sensitization materials, and a musical fiesta to drive home the campaign’s message in a fun and engaging way.

The event reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s ongoing efforts to build digital resilience and encourage citizens to “Stay Smart, Stay Safe” online.
