The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) internal crisis took a new turn on Monday as a member of the House of Representatives, Honourable Sadiq Abdullahi, announced his resignation from the opposition party, citing worsening factionalism and a “loss of direction.”
Abdullahi, who represents Sabon Gari Federal Constituency in Kaduna State and serves as Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), said the PDP’s prolonged internal wrangling had made it difficult for him to effectively discharge his legislative duties.
In his resignation letter addressed to his ward chairman and made available to journalists, the lawmaker said:
“The persistent internal conflicts and factionalisation within the PDP, which have culminated in a prolonged party crisis, are adversely affecting my ability to effectively represent my constituency and perform my duties optimally.”
Abdullahi explained that his decision followed extensive consultations with key stakeholders and political associates across his constituency. He added that his move was driven by the need to ensure “purposeful, inclusive, and effective representation” beyond party lines.
“I wish to sincerely thank the PDP for the privilege and opportunity to serve under its platform. The support, trust, and experiences I have gained during my time with the party have been invaluable,” he said.
His exit comes barely days after the resignation of the PDP’s former National Secretary, S.K.E. Udeh Okoye, underscoring growing dissatisfaction within the party’s ranks over its leadership and strategic direction ahead of future election
