Nigeria Joins International Association of Judges,Gains Global Recognition

The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has lauded the National Association of Judges of Nigeria (NAJN) following its admission as a member of the International Association of Judges (IAJ).

The NAJN, which will now represent Nigeria at the global judicial forum, was admitted during the 67th Annual Meeting of the IAJ in Baku, Azerbaijan, making Nigeria the 93rd member nation of the prestigious association.

According to a statement by the CJN’s media aide, Tobi Soniyi, the admission reflects growing international confidence in Nigeria’s judiciary. He noted that while the IAJ reviewed some challenges faced by the Nigerian judicial system, it also recognised the ongoing reforms led by Justice Kekere-Ekun.

Reacting to the development, Justice Kekere-Ekun described Nigeria’s entry into the IAJ as a moment of pride and responsibility.

“Nigeria embraces this membership with humility, commitment, and a deep sense of responsibility,” she said.
“We recognise the values that this association upholds, and we are determined to contribute actively to its mission. We are committed to further strengthening the independence of our judiciary, upholding the rule of law, and ensuring the continued protection and promotion of human rights in our country.”

Her remarks underline Nigeria’s dedication to judicial independence, the rule of law, and human rights, positioning the country as an active participant in global judicial discourse.

This milestone marks a significant achievement for the Nigerian judiciary, highlighting its efforts at reform, transparency, and international collaboration under Justice Kekere-Ekun’s leadership.
