By Chinedu Echianu
The Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Professor Abubakar Sulaiman, has called on the leadership of the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) to take a proactive stance on leadership recruitment processes in Kwara State.
Professor Sulaiman made the appeal on Friday in Abuja, when the leadership of the IEDPU Federal Capital Territory (FCT) branch, led by its Chairman, Alhaji Luckman Atanda, paid him a courtesy visit to felicitate with him on his 60th birthday, celebrated on October 16.

He urged the Union not to “sit on the fence” in matters affecting the distribution of political leadership and opportunities in Kwara, stressing that the IEDPU must articulate and project the collective voice and position of the Ilorin Emirate in governance and development affairs.
Professor Sulaiman, who expressed deep appreciation for the visit, described the IEDPU delegation as his “family” and thanked them for their show of love. He prayed for greater unity and cooperation among the people of Ilorin Emirate to drive holistic progress and development in the state.
Earlier in his remarks, Alhaji Luckman Atanda congratulated Professor Sulaiman on his 60th birthday, describing him as a “proud and worthy ambassador of Ilorin, Kwara State, and a great Nigerian.”
The highlight of the visit was the symbolic presentation of the Holy Quran and a designer birthday card to Professor Sulaiman on behalf of the National President of IEDPU, retired Assistant Comptroller General of Immigration, Abdulmumini Ayo Abdulmalik.
