A member of the House of Representatives and a top Kogi State official have commended the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for its exceptional performance in combating illicit drugs, urging the Federal Government to improve welfare and insurance coverage for its personnel.
Speaking onat the NDLEA’s annual commendation and award ceremony in Abuja, Hon. Ahmed Jaha, Chairman of the House Committee on Insurance and Actuarial Matters, described the event as a “celebration of national excellence and sacrifice.”
“We are here to celebrate Nigeria, to celebrate the NDLEA, and to celebrate the extraordinary achievements of its officers,” Jaha said.k
He congratulated the award recipients and newly promoted officers, encouraging others to remain diligent while awaiting promotion. Jaha also called for the introduction of a hybrid contributory pension and group life insurance scheme for NDLEA staff, citing the risks associated with their duties.
“Given the hazardous nature of your work, there is a need for government to provide a hybrid contributory pension and group life insurance cover for NDLEA personnel,” he added. “Your job is very dangerous, and there is nothing wrong with ensuring that your officers are adequately protected.”
The lawmaker further commended NDLEA Chairman Brigadier-General Buba Marwa (Retd.) for his leadership and long-standing contributions to national development.
Representing the Governor of Kogi State, Special Adviser on Security Commander Jerry Omodara (Retd.) also lauded the agency’s professionalism and impact in the state.
“His Excellency, Governor Usman Ododo, appreciates the NDLEA Chairman for raising the agency to remarkable heights,” Omodara said. “In Kogi, your men have recorded major breakthroughs against traffickers, and their dedication has reduced drug movement through our highways.”
He extended the governor’s condolences over the death of an NDLEA officer killed in a road accident after an operation in Idah, describing the loss as “a sacrifice in service to the nation.”
Omodara also congratulated all newly promoted officers, particularly the Kogi State Commander, appealing to the agency to retain him due to his exceptional performance.
