The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has empowered 19 additional beneficiaries under its vocational rehabilitation programme for injured workers, reaffirming its commitment to providing social protection and restoring dignity to Nigerian workers.

The empowerment ceremony, held at the Fund’s Mainland office in Lagos, was part of the ongoing implementation of the Employees’ Compensation Scheme (ECS).

Speaking at the event on Monday, the General Manager, Claims and Compensation, Mrs. Nkiru Ede-Ogunnaike, who represented the Managing Director and Chief Executive, Barrister Oluwaseun Faleye, explained that vocational rehabilitation for injured workers is enshrined in the Employees’ Compensation Act of 2010.

She said the programme is carried out in three phases — reorientation, vocational training, and empowerment with startup tools — to enable injured workers regain independence and self-sufficiency.

“This event marks another milestone in our journey to restore dignity through work for beneficiaries in the Lagos and Ibadan zones,” Ede-Ogunnaike said. “Guided by the Employees’ Compensation Act 2010, we are building pathways for injured workers to regain independence.”

Describing the event as a celebration of “courage, resilience, and the power of second chances,” she noted that the initiative would soon be expanded nationwide to reach more Nigerian workers who have lost their ability to continue in their previous jobs due to workplace injuries or disabilities.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Taiwo Kosoko, who was trained in poultry farming and equipped to establish his own business, expressed gratitude to the management of NSITF for their support. He praised the Fund’s leadership under Barrister Faleye for what he described as transformative efforts that have made the impact of the scheme felt across the country.

Launched in July 2025, the vocational rehabilitation programme has so far benefited 57 Nigerians from selected zones.
