The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed the FCT Administration’s commitment to deepening economic cooperation between Abuja and Turkey, particularly with its commercial hub, Istanbul.

Wike made this known on Monday, when he received the Turkish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mehemet Poroy, during a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja.

The Minister highlighted the longstanding cordial relations between Nigeria and Turkey, noting the growing presence of Turkish nationals engaged in legitimate business activities across the FCT.

He assured the Ambassador that the Administration remains committed to providing a secure and enabling environment for Turkish investors and residents.

“I would like to particularly see how we can partner with Istanbul to improve our economic relations. It is our intention to provide a free environment where your citizens will carry out their businesses without molestation,” Wike said.

He further invited the Ambassador to identify specific areas where the FCT Administration could offer support or deepen cooperation, emphasizing that Abuja is ready to explore concrete partnerships that will enhance bilateral trade and investment.

According to him, the relationship between Nigeria and Turkey has been “very cordial and economically commendable,” and the FCTA is determined to build on these gains.

Wike also extended appreciation to the Turkish Embassy for simplifying and accelerating visa processes for Nigerians, especially business travellers from Abuja—an effort he said has boosted trade and eased cross-border movement.

In his remarks, Ambassador Poroy stressed that the economic dimension remains the most significant aspect of Nigeria–Turkey relations.

He expressed optimism about the potential for increased bilateral trade and noted that streamlined visa procedures are a critical step toward strengthening business and cultural exchanges.

He also thanked the FCT Minister and relevant agencies for consistently providing quality services to the diplomatic community and residents within the nation’s capital.
