The All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned a call by factional Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tanimu Turaki, urging foreign powers to intervene in Nigeria’s affairs. Turaki reportedly made the appeal on Tuesday while addressing journalists on the internal crisis bedevilling his party.
In a strongly worded statement issued in Abuja, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, described Turaki’s comments—framed as a response to alleged “Christian genocide” and threats to democracy—as “reckless, unpatriotic and a dangerous threat to national security and sovereignty.”
Morka criticised Turaki, who was declared chairman by a PDP faction just days ago, saying he appeared “desperate, incoherent, and lacking the capacity to manage his party’s crisis.” According to the APC, Nigerians had expected Turaki to prioritize reconciliation within the opposition party rather than escalate tensions by calling for foreign intervention.
The ruling party argued that even during the PDP’s 16-year tenure in power, opposition parties never resorted to inviting foreign involvement in Nigeria’s internal political disputes. The APC said Turaki’s appeal amounted to an admission of the PDP’s failure to resolve its internal challenges and a signal of the party’s “embarrassing disintegration.”
“We trust the international community to dismiss the PDP’s disgraceful call as a pitiful distraction from the collapse of its internal democracy,” the statement added, accusing the opposition of “heightened desperation.”
The APC urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in supporting the ruling party and President Bola Tinubu’s administration as it continues efforts to drive development across various sectors.
