FG Inducts 1,187 New ASPs, Tasks Graduates on Ethics

The Federal Government has commissioned 1,187 newly graduated cadets of Regular Course 7 of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, inducting them into the Force as Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs).

The Passing Out Parade, held on Saturday in Kano State, marked the completion of five years of academic and professional training, during which the cadets earned Bachelor’s degrees across various disciplines alongside core policing instruction.

Representing President Bola Tinubu, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, urged the officers to uphold integrity, professionalism and respect for human rights.

He said the administration remains committed to comprehensive police reform, improved personnel welfare and enhanced operational capacity nationwide.

According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, the commissioning reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen the police workforce with educated, technology-driven and ethically grounded officers.

Issue: Restoring Public Trust Through Better-Trained Officers

The ceremony underscored the government’s push to rebuild public confidence in the police through improved training and officer conduct, a central theme of ongoing reform conversations in Nigeria.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, PhD, reminded the new ASPs that policing in a democratic society demands discipline, character and service to the people.

He charged them to demonstrate professionalism and commitment as they take up leadership roles across commands.

Their presence signaled broad support for strengthening Nigeria’s policing architecture amid evolving security threats.

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its determination to produce highly trained, globally aligned officers capable of addressing complex security challenges and improving public safety across the country.
