Kebbi Lawmaker the lawmaker representing Aliero/Gwandu/Jega Federal Constituency, Mansur Musa, , has formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defection was announced on the floor of the House of Representatives on Tuesday after Speaker Tajudeen Abbas read Musa’s letter of notification.

In his letter, Musa explained that the PDP had become riddled with “deep-seated internal fractures, persistent conflicts and unresolved crises”, which he said had eroded unity and organizational discipline, making the party incapable of providing credible leadership. “These divisions have created an environment incompatible with my mandate and the expectations of the good people of my constituency,” he added.

Musa emphasized that his decision followed extensive consultations with community leaders and political stakeholders and deep personal reflection. “After prayerful reflection, it became clear that remaining within a platform engulfed in such an unending crisis will compromise the effective representation that Almighty God has entrusted,” he said.

The lawmaker cited the APC’s stability, coherence, and disciplined structure as key factors in his decision. “The APC offers a more coherent and disciplined platform, one that aligns better with the aspirations of our constituency and provides the stability required for meaningful governance. My defection is therefore an act of responsibility — rooted in principle, standing by faith and anchored by the overriding need to serve my people without any incompetence,” Musa stated.

He urged the House to update its records to reflect his new party affiliation and prayed for divine guidance in the performance of his duties. “May Almighty Allah guide all our decisions and strengthen our resolve to serve the nation faithfully,” he wrote.

Following the announcement, Musa received a formal welcome from APC lawmakers and leadership in the Green Chamber.
