The Nigeria Economic Zones Association (NEZA) has applauded the Managing Directors of the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA) and the Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority (OGFZA) for advocating a ten-year moratorium on implementing the National Tax Policy (NTA) within Nigeria’s Free Zones.

In a statement on Tuesday, NEZA describs the move as timely, saying it aligns with concerns the association raised in its official press release on September 1, 2025.

NEZA Executive Secretary Toyin Elegbede warned that enforcing the NTA without a clear transitional framework could drive existing investors away and deter new investment in the Free Zone scheme.

He said the proposed moratorium would act as a strategic buffer, enabling policy harmonisation, investor engagement, regulatory clarity, and the creation of a globally competitive incentives framework for zone-based enterprises.

NEZA urged NEPZA and OGFZA to maintain their collaborative advocacy to protect the Free Zone scheme and ensure Nigeria remains an attractive destination for investment.

The association pledged continued engagement with all stakeholders to prevent policy decisions that could undermine the competitiveness and sustainability of Nigeria’s Free Zones.
