President Bola Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the Board of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) following the confirmation of its members by the Senate on December 16.

In a statement on Thursday, Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga says the reconstituted Board is chaired by Mulisiu Olalekan Oseni, who previously served as a Commissioner from January 2017 and later as Vice Chairman of the Commission.

His appointment as Chairman took effect from December 1, 2025, and will run until the completion of his ten-year tenure, in line with the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2023.

Yusuf Ali has been appointed Vice Chairman of the Commission. He was first appointed as a Commissioner in February 2022, and his designation as Vice Chairman also took effect from December 1, 2025, pending the completion of his first term.

Other members of the Board include Nathan Rogers Shatti and Dafe Akpeneye, both serving second terms as Commissioners, having been first appointed in January 2017.

Aisha Mahmud Kanti Bello, first appointed in December 2020, is also serving a second term as Commissioner.

Chidi Ike, first appointed in February 2022, is serving his first term on the Board, while Fouad Animashaun joins the Commission for a first term effective December 2025.

Animashaun is an energy economist with extensive experience in the Nigerian power sector and most recently served as Executive Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission.

President Tinubu has charged members of the reconstituted Board to deepen and consolidate the ongoing transformation of Nigeria’s power sector, in strict alignment with the letter and spirit of the Electricity Act, 2023.
