The Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) says the concession of Akanu Ibiam International Airport is set to drive Southeast economic growth and boost investor confidence.
Director-General of the ICRC, Dr. Jobson Ewalefoh, who stated this said the project aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Dr. Ewalefoh in a statement he signed on Sunday describes the signing of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreement by the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development and FAAN as a strong signal of Nigeria’s readiness to deepen private sector participation in infrastructure.

The agreement marks the commercial close of the project, paving the way for full implementation.
“This concession will make the airport a key gateway for the Southeast, boosting tourism, trade, and regional economic growth,” he said.
He noted that the project reflects the Federal Government’s drive to unlock private capital, improve service delivery, and reposition strategic national assets for long-term sustainability.
Dr. Ewalefoh also commended Enugu State Governor Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for proactive leadership and urged other governors to leverage PPPs to attract investment and accelerate development.
He praised Minister Festus Keyamo, SAN, FAAN, and all transaction partners for reaching commercial close, reaffirming ICRC’s role in supporting Ministries and Agencies as the project progresses.
The concession is expected to enhance connectivity, strengthen the regional economy, and create a sustainable model for private sector-led infrastructure in Nigeria.
