NITDA, NBC to Partner on Digital Regulation

The Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa, CCIE, has reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to deeper inter-agency collaboration, describing digital transformation and regulation as inseparable in Nigeria’s evolving digital ecosystem.

Inuwa made this known while receiving the Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Charles Ebuebu, on a courtesy visit focused on exploring strategic partnerships in digital transformation and regulatory alignment across Nigeria’s media and technology sectors.

According to the NITDA boss, digital transformation is not a one-off initiative but a continuous process that requires constant improvement, clear targets, and organisational adaptability.

He explained that NITDA deliberately embarked on a reform journey to reposition itself from a traditional civil service institution into a high-performing, innovation-driven public sector organisation.

Inuwa disclosed that over 70 per cent of NITDA’s workforce originally came from the mainstream civil service, making mindset change a critical priority.

“We started changing the narrative by focusing on people, resetting mindsets, building capacity, and fostering a culture that supports innovation and accountability,” he said.

He noted that NITDA’s transformation strategy is built on three core pillars—people, processes, and technology—stressing that technology alone cannot deliver value without the right culture and efficient systems. As part of this effort, the agency carried out cultural audits and introduced initiatives to promote psychological safety, enabling staff to freely contribute ideas and collaborate across departments.

Inuwa further revealed that NITDA documented over 396 internal processes and streamlined them to eliminate inefficiencies and excessive executive approvals.

He said routine operational decisions were redesigned to empower departments, allowing leadership to focus on strategic priorities.

The NITDA DG emphasised that culture remains the foundation of successful reform, noting that even the best strategies fail without the right organisational culture.

The meeting with NBC, he said, reflects NITDA’s readiness to work closely with regulators to ensure Nigeria’s digital transformation is effective, coordinated, and sustainable.
