The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has fixed March 28 and 29, 2026, for its National Convention in Abuja, where new members of the National Working Committee (NWC) and other statutory organs will be elected.
This was part of resolutions reached at the 105th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Monday, February 2, 2026, in Abuja.
Key Resolutions
NEC unanimously reaffirmed all decisions taken at the party’s 104th Emergency NEC meeting of December 7, 2025, declaring them valid, binding, and consistent with the PDP Constitution, Nigerian laws, and judicial pronouncements.

The committee also welcomed the judgment of the Federal High Court, Ibadan, which upheld the legality of the PDP leadership structure and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize the National Caretaker Committee.
NEC reaffirmed the legitimacy of the Abdulrahman Muhammed-led National Caretaker Committee, with Senator Samuel Anyanwu as Secretary, describing it as the only lawful national administrative organ of the party pending the convention.
Congresses
NEC approved the following schedule for congresses nationwide:
Ward Congresses: February 2026
Local Government Congresses: February 2026
State Congresses: March 2026
The Caretaker Committee was directed to issue detailed guidelines in line with PDP rules, INEC regulations, and court orders.
NEC also approved the extension of the tenure of the National, State, and Zonal Caretaker Committees pending the conduct of the convention and congresses.
Wike Declares Interest in Oyo PDP
Also at the meeting, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, declared his interest in all activities of the Oyo State PDP, stressing that his focus is the survival and success of the party nationwide.
“I am interested in the survival and success of this party. I am also interested in all the happenings in Oyo State PDP,” Wike said.
He dismissed claims of intimidation within the party, insisting that ongoing legal disputes had collapsed and that INEC had no option but to recognize the Caretaker Committee.

Wike urged party members to return to the grassroots, warning against treating the PDP as a charity organization, and maintained that the party remains strong despite current challenges.
“The PDP is too strong. We must capitalise on what we have and move forward,” he said.
Call for Unity
NEC called on all members to remain united, disciplined, and law-abiding, expressing confidence that the resolutions would restore stability, strengthen internal democracy, and reposition the PDP for future electoral success.
