Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have dismantled a notorious drug hub known as Ama Hausa in Bonny Island, Rivers State, arresting six suspects and seizing large quantities of cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, skunk, and tramadol.

The operation, carried out on Friday, 6 February 2026, turned deadly when the gang leader, Genesis George Benson, mobilised armed hoodlums to attack the NDLEA team in an attempt to escape.

During the confrontation, Chief Narcotic Agent Sadiq Bako-Mujahid sustained severe head injuries and later died at Bonny Island General Hospital.

NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi confirmed the arrests, which include: ThankGod Okon, Shamsudden Isah, Muhammed Musa, Adamu Muhammed, Muhammed Yusuf, and gang leader Genesis George Benson, who is directly linked to the attack.

Despite the assault, operatives subdued the attackers, secured the suspects, and recovered all seized drugs.

Reacting to the incident, NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) praised the bravery and resilience of the operatives.

“I salute the gallantry of our men who refused to be intimidated. Even after the cowardly attack on Mujahid, they ensured the assailants were overpowered and arrested. Their sacrifice will not be in vain,” Marwa said.

He described the late officer as a disciplined and courageous patriot who paid the ultimate price in service to Nigeria, warning that any attack on NDLEA officers is an attack on the state and will not go unpunished.

“We remain undeterred in our mission to rid Nigeria of illicit drugs,” Marwa added.
