The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has strengthened community development in Lagos with the commissioning of two major projects: the renovated Methodist Primary School, Ibeshe, Ikorodu, and the Wale Adeniyi Sports Arena at the Western Marine Command.

The projects, unveiled on Wednesday, 11 February 2026, reflect NCS’s renewed commitment to education, youth development, fitness, and community engagement under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, according to Customs spokesperson Abdullahi Maiwada on Thursday.

Upgraded School Facilities

Inaugurating the school, Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) Adewale Adeniyi said the renovation aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and enhances learning for students.

The upgrade covered over 15 classroom blocks and introduced new facilities, including:

Solar-powered security lights

Computer rooms and a library

Teacher and pupil toilets

A school clinic and food vendor area

Multipurpose hall and playground

CGC Adeniyi praised the Lilypond Export Command for spearheading the intervention, describing it as a model of impactful community investment.

School leadership and community figures expressed gratitude. Headmistress Felicia Oyatoye said the improved infrastructure would significantly boost teaching and learning outcomes. Former and current command controllers, Comptrollers Ajibola Odusanya (Rtd) and Samuel Ariyibi, urged the school to establish a maintenance unit to sustain the improvements.

Wale Adeniyi Sports Arena

At the Western Marine Command, CGC Adeniyi also commissioned the Wale Adeniyi Sports Arena, highlighting its importance for fitness, mental well-being, and community engagement.

“Because of the nature of our job, we must remain fit at all times. This facility is built to be used, and I encourage officers across commands to take full advantage of it,” he said.

Comptroller Patrick Ntadi, Area Controller of the Western Marine Command, stressed that the arena is a community asset and called for its proper maintenance.

The commissioning featured tours and sporting demonstrations, underscoring the NCS’s commitment to fostering education and healthy lifestyles.
