President Bola Tinubu says ethical leadership and resilient institutions remain critical to achieving peace, justice, and sustainable development globally.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Special Assistant (Media) to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Rabiu Ibrahim, the President stressed that ethical political conduct is no longer optional in an increasingly polarised and fast-changing world.

Speaking at the Global Council for Political Renewal (GCPR) Conference in Cape Town, South Africa—where he was represented by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris—Tinubu warned that rising global divisions and the rapid spread of misinformation pose serious threats to democratic stability.

“We are living in a time of deep political and ideological polarisation, where misinformation spreads faster than truth. The challenge before us is how to protect free expression while restoring responsibility, civility, and trust in public discourse,” he said.

Highlighting Nigeria’s governance reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda, the President said his administration prioritises transparency, accountability, and improved institutional performance.

“Public office is a trust. Our reforms are focused on modernising institutions, reducing leakages, and ensuring that governance decisions improve the daily lives of citizens,” he noted.

Tinubu cited ongoing socio-economic interventions, youth-focused programmes, and initiatives promoting the responsible use of digital platforms and emerging technologies as part of efforts to strengthen governance.

“Political renewal is not a single event,” he said. “It is a continuous effort to build institutions, protect democratic space, and deliver real value to the people.”

Reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to the principles of the Global Council for Political Renewal—which promotes dialogue, justice, and peace among nations—the President underscored the need for stronger global cooperation in the face of economic volatility and security challenges.

“No country is immune to these pressures,” he said, emphasising the importance of sustained dialogue and international partnerships in safeguarding global stability.

Tinubu added that Nigeria stands ready to help shape a global roadmap for ethics, justice, peace, and development, drawing on its experience as a diverse democracy committed to unity and inclusion.
