The Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman, has called on Muslims across the country to show empathy and extend support to the less privileged as the 2026 Ramadan fasting begins.

Prof. Sulaiman said the holy month offers believers an opportunity to demonstrate compassion, generosity, and solidarity, noting that the true essence of fasting lies in giving, sharing, and being one another’s keeper.

He stated this in a statement issued Wednesday, by his Media Adviser, Mohammad Abdulkadri.

The DG rejoiced with the Muslim Ummah for witnessing the start of Ramadan and prayed for all to complete the fast in peace.

He described the period as a spiritual journey that tests the faith, discipline, and moral resolve of believers, who abstain from food, drink, smoking, and intimate relations from dawn to sunset in obedience to Almighty Allah.

Prof. Sulaiman, a former Minister of National Planning, prayed that Allah accepts the prayers, good deeds, and sacrifices offered during the holy month.

He also urged fasting Muslims to pray for leaders at all levels and for the nation to overcome its current challenges.

He wished all Muslims a peaceful and blessed Ramadan.
