US President Donald Trump says his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing has produced major trade agreements and progress on key global issues.
Trump made the remarks after holding talks and taking a walk with Xi at Zhongnanhai, the Chinese leadership compound in Beijing.
He described the visit as productive and beneficial to both countries.
Trump Praises New Trade Agreements
“We’ve made some fantastic trade deals, great for both countries,” Trump said.
He noted that both leaders resolved several important issues during the summit. The US president also claimed that China had offered to assist in reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route affected by tensions linked to the Middle East conflict.
Trade and Technology
Trump travelled to China seeking agreements in areas such as agriculture, aviation and artificial intelligence.
The leaders also discussed broader geopolitical concerns involving both global powers.
During the meeting, Trump described Xi as a “great leader” and a “friend.”
Jinping Calls Visit a Milestone
Xi Jinping adopted a more cautious tone during the talks. The Chinese president described Trump’s visit as a “milestone visit.”
He said both countries had established “a new bilateral relationship” focused on “constructive strategic stability.”
Symbolic Gesture Highlights Improving Relations
Jinping also promised to send seeds for the White House Rose Garden to Trump. The gesture symbolized improving diplomatic ties between China and the United States.
The meeting comes amid continued global attention on trade relations and strategic competition between the world’s two largest economies.
