The Federal Ministry of Works says sections of the First Niger Bridge will be closed from September 7 to September 21 to allow maintenance work to be carried out.
The Acting Federal Controller of Works in Anambra, Timothy Emenike, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Awka on Friday.
Emenike urged motorists and commuters who use the bridge to take note of the planned closure.
He advised motorists to use the Second Niger Bridge as an alternative route during the maintenance period.
According to him, the work will include repairs to vandalised sections of the bridge.
Emenike apologised for the inconvenience the closure may cause motorists and commuters, saying the maintenance would be carried out day and night to ensure its speedy completion.
He also urged motorists to cooperate with authorities and obey diversion signs to minimise delays and discomfort during the period.
