By Anayo Akwitti

Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, has congratulated the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on her 66th birthday, praising her contributions to national development and democratic governance.

Barau, who is also the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, described the First Lady’s contributions to the country as significant and enduring.

In a statement issue on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, Barau highlights the First Lady’s Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), saying the programme had continued to address challenges in education, healthcare, social welfare, women and youth empowerment, as well as support for vulnerable Nigerians.

The Deputy Senate President notes that Oluremi Tinubu’s commitment to public service predates her role as First Lady of Nigeria.

According to him, during her tenure as First Lady of Lagos State between 1999 and 2007, she founded the New Era Foundation, through which she supported women, children and young people across the state.

He also recalled her 12-year tenure as Senator representing Lagos Central Senatorial District from 2011 to 2023, during which she served on various Senate committees and participated in legislative activities on issues of national importance.

Barau prayed for the First Lady to be granted many more years in good health, wisdom, strength and fulfilment.

He also expressed the hope that she would continue to support President Bola Tinubu in advancing peace, stability and sustainable development in Nigeria.
