The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, Olisa Oyelu, also known as “Obele,” over alleged kidnapping and armed robbery.
The police said Oyelu was arrested in connection with a 2023 kidnapping incident that resulted in the death of the victim.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday.
Ikenga say operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department arrested Oyelu in the early hours of Wednesday, September 23, following sustained intelligence gathering and investigation.
According to the police, Oyelu is allegedly an active member of an armed robbery and kidnapping gang led by a suspected criminal known as “Pincode.”
The command describe Oyelu as the last identified member of the gang to be arrested in connection with the 2023 incident.
Ikenga says the police launched an extensive investigation after the incident to identify and arrest everyone allegedly connected with the crime.
He adds that Oyelu would be transferred to a correctional centre after the investigation, while Pincode and four other suspects were already in custody awaiting the court’s determination.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Ama, commended the operatives for their work and urged residents to continue providing credible information to the police.
The command say it remained committed to pursuing suspects linked to the crime and ensuring that those found culpable face the law.
