Reps Extend 2025 Capital Budget Implementation to Dec. 31

By Mardiyyah Abubakar

The House of Representatives has given Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) additional time to complete projects and other capital expenditures captured in the 2025 budget.

The House on Tuesday approved an extension of the implementation period for the capital component of the 2025 Appropriation Act to December 31, 2026.

The decision followed a request by President Bola Tinubu for more time to enable MDAs to complete critical infrastructure projects and other capital programmes under the budget.

Lawmakers passed the amendment bill through accelerated readings during plenary.

The extension is expected to give government agencies more time to execute projects already provided for in the 2025 fiscal framework and reduce the risk of abandoning ongoing projects.

The 2025 capital budget was originally due to expire on December 31, 2025.

The National Assembly subsequently extended the deadline to March 31, 2026, then June 30 and later September 30.
