2027: Wike Vows to Resign if Tinubu Loses FCT, Rivers

By Sofiat Adenekan-Abdul

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, says  he will resign from office if President Bola Tinubu loses the 2027 presidential election in the Federal Capital Territory and Rivers State.

Wike made the declaration during an engagement with the leadership and members of the Apo Mechanics and Traders Association in Abuja, where he said his continued service as a minister was tied to his ability to deliver electoral results for the President in the two areas.

The Minister said that if Tinubu loses the FCT and Rivers State in the presidential election, he would announce his resignation on January 17, 2027, a day after the poll.

“If I cannot deliver where I work, then I’m not worthy to be here,” Wike said.

He added that losing the FCT would mean he had failed in his responsibility as FCT Minister.

“If I lose FCT, I’m not supposed to be FCT Minister. By January 17, 2027, I will announce my resignation as FCT Minister should the President lose in Rivers State and the FCT,” he said.

Wike also disclosed plans for a multi-party coalition in the FCT ahead of the 2027 elections, saying the coalition would support candidates across various elective positions.

He reaffirmed his support for Tinubu’s re-election bid and endorsed former FCT Senator Philip Aduda for the Senate, alongside other candidates for the House of Representatives.

“For the Presidency, it is Bola Tinubu! For the Senate, Philip Aduda is a man of the people,” Wike said, adding that the coalition was working to deliver electoral results across the FCT.

The declaration comes as the FCT Administration continues efforts to resolve the long-standing relocation and land allocation process involving mechanics and traders operating at the Apo Mechanic Village.
