Russian Drone Strike Kills 14 at Ukraine Train Station

At least 14 people have been killed and 14 others injured after a Russian drone struck a railway station in Ukraine’s Dnipro region, in an attack that hit two passenger trains and left several victims critically wounded.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described Thursday’s assault as “horrific” and renewed calls for international allies to sustain sanctions against Moscow.

Regional Governor Oleksandr Ganzha said six of the injured were in critical condition, with victims suffering multiple shrapnel wounds. They included an 11-year-old boy and a man who had both legs amputated.

Zelensky said the drone struck a platform where a commuter train and a passenger train were stationed.

Images released by Ukrainian emergency services showed bodies on the platform, rescuers evacuating victims and two burnt-out trains with shattered windows.

The attack came amid a fragile, localised ceasefire in Oleshky, a city in Russian-occupied territory where residents have endured months of shortages of food, water and medicine.

Both countries said the truce had entered its third day, with Ukraine’s human rights ombudsman, Dmytro Lubinets, travelling alongside the Ukrainian delegation to Oleshky through Belarus and Russia.

However, hostilities continued in other parts of the country, underscoring the limited impact of the temporary arrangement.

French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the Dnipro attack, insisting that a localised ceasefire was insufficient to end the wider conflict.

In a post on X, Macron accused Russia of rejecting proposals to halt the fighting while escalating its military campaign and targeting civilians.

Zelensky also maintained that sanctions against Moscow and its military machinery must remain in force for as long as the war continues.
