The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced that the FCT Administration will refund 50 per cent of the cost of the pedestrian bridge built by Dunamis International Gospel Centre along Abuja’s Airport Road.
Wike made the announcement on Friday during the inauguration of the bridge at the church’s headquarters, the 100,000-capacity Glory Dome, Abuja.
He commended the church for the project, describing it as an example of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
The minister said the church applied for approval to construct the bridge in 2018, but the application was brought to his attention in February 2026. He said the FCT Administration approved it within one month.
Wike said the project demonstrated the importance of collaboration between government and private organisations, noting that government could not shoulder every responsibility alone.
“Government cannot do everything alone; there is nowhere in the world where government carries every burden. That is why we emphasise comprehensive social responsibility,” he said.
He praised Dunamis Senior Pastor, Dr Paul Enenche, and his wife, Dr Becky Enenche, for committing church resources to improving public safety and welfare.
Wike also urged pedestrians to use footbridges rather than risk their lives by crossing busy expressways. He criticised those who ignore safety infrastructure and later blame government when enforcement measures are introduced.
Earlier, Dr pastor Enenche said the church built the bridge in response to frequent fatal accidents along the Airport Road corridor.
He added that the church planned to install modern coverings, security lighting and transparent side panels to protect pedestrians from harsh weather and encourage more people to use the facility.
The cleric urged individuals and leaders to use their resources to make positive contributions to society.
The senator representing the FCT, Ireti Kingibe, also commended the church, describing its intervention as a demonstration of compassion and concern for public safety.
She called on residents and leaders to work together towards making Abuja safer and more peaceful.
