Trump has acknowledged the Democrats’ strong performance, saying they “did a good job”. He also admitted that the war in Iran and rising fuel prices contributed to the Republican defeat.

The outcome reflects growing voter frustration over the cost of living, with many Americans blaming Trump for the economic pressures facing households.

Democrats secured major victories in traditionally Republican states, including Texas, Ohio and Kansas, which has not elected a Democrat to the Senate in nearly a century.
