Marwa commiserates with Borno residents over flood disaster

The Chairman, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, retired Brigadier General, Mohamed Buba Marwa, has expressed his heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the government and people of Borno state over the recent devastating flood disaster that has displaced thousands of residents and damaged several properties.

Marwa who is a former Military Governor of the old Borno state in his condolence message to the state governor, Professor Babagana Zulum on Wednesday empathised with him, the Shehu of Borno, His Highness Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanem, victims and residents over the natural disaster.

According to the NDLEA boss, “I will like to assure Governor Zulum, the Shehu of Borno, the affectees and indeed the good people of Borno state that they are not alone at this difficult time”.

“Our prayers and sympathies are with them as we continue to pray that the flood will recede quickly and the people will return to their daily life and activities.”

According to a statement on Wednesday by the spokesperson of the NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, Marwa expressed sincere respect for the officials of federal and state emergency agencies, NGOs and well spirited individuals who are providing support, relief and rescue efforts on the ground in the affected communities in the state.

Seventy percent of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, was reportedly submerged by the fast-moving waters from Alau dam that overflowed following torrential rainfall, while the flood also ravaged other major areas, including the palace of the Shehu of Borno, the state secretariat, post office, cemetery, Lagos area, Bulabulin, Gwange, Monday market, University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital and Kofar Shehu, among other locations.
