Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has urged Abia State to sustain its gains in peace, security and good governance as the state marks 35 years.
Kalu in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu, says the progress recorded should translate into better livelihoods, jobs and improved infrastructure for residents.
He also commended ongoing efforts to pay workers’ pensions and gratuities, describing the payments as a responsibility government must uphold to honour retired workers.
The Deputy Speaker praised Governor Alex Otti’s administration for prioritising security and good governance, including the establishment of an Air Force Base in Umuahia.
He said stronger cooperation between the state and federal governments would help attract investment, create jobs and expand infrastructure.
Kalu also cited federal projects and institutions in the state, including the Renewed Hope Housing Projects and newly approved federal educational institutions, as examples of such collaboration.
The Deputy Speaker, who represents Bende Federal Constituency, urged Abians to sustain peace, unity and effective service delivery.
Abia state was created from the old Imo State on August 27, 1991.
