Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has granted automatic employment to nine former members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) from the state who recently received the prestigious Presidential Honours Award.
Governor Otti made the announcement on Tuesday while receiving the awardees in his office, led by the State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Gladys Adama.
The governor directed the State Head of Service to issue appointment letters to the beneficiaries without delay.
“On behalf of the state government, you are going to leave here with a token; but beyond the token, I hereby temporarily lift the embargo on employment to employ the nine of you, except if any of you is not interested.
So, having lifted that embargo and having employed all of you, I also close the embargo,” Otti declared.

He further instructed the Attorney-General of the state to ensure the Head of Service processes their employment without subjecting them to interviews.
“So, all you need to do is go and do your documentation, and then you can start work on Monday,” he added.
The governor praised the ex-Corps members for their exceptional performance and urged them to continue to excel in their chosen careers. He also commended Mrs. Adama for her leadership and for presenting the honourees to the state government.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Mr. Chinomso Nwogu expressed gratitude to the governor for the recognition and opportunity given to them.
Earlier, NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Adama, explained that the nine awardees were among those decorated by President Bola Tinubu on July 29, 2025, for outstanding service.
“I have come with these nine who have done Abia proud, out of about a hundred and something. Abia came first with nine of them. They excelled in their places of primary assignment. None of them served in Abia, and only one of them served in the East; others served far away in the North,” she noted.
The beneficiaries of the automatic employment are: Nwogu Chinonso Nwogo, Promise Anyanwu, Ezieme Uba, Ezinne Emmanuel, Grace Abia, Chiemela Nwafike, Dr. Mark Ugwa, Miracle Eke, and James Chukwuebuka.
