Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has commended the President of the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF), Dr. Ademola Are, for his exceptional contributions to the successful staging of the 22nd National Sports Festival, tagged “Gateway Games Ogun 2024.”

In a letter of appreciation addressed to Dr. Are, the governor lauded his commitment, organizational capacity, and leadership as a key member of the Local Organising Committee (LOC).

Governor Abiodun noted that his efforts were instrumental in raising the bar for the planning and execution of the biennial multi-sport event.

“As a member of the LOC, you played an active role that raised the standard of the Games. The government and good people of Ogun State are proud of you and deeply appreciate the rare qualities you displayed before, during, and after the festival. This was a national assignment, and I am pleased to attest that you acquitted yourself creditably,” Governor Abiodun wrote.

The Gateway Games, which took place in Abeokuta from May 16 to 30, 2025, brought together athletes, officials, and sports enthusiasts from across the country.

Widely regarded as one of the most efficiently organized editions in the festival’s history, the event was praised for its seamless coordination, robust participation, and the hospitality extended by the host state.

Dr. Are, who also doubles as the NRFF President, was recognized for bringing his vast experience in sports administration to bear on the planning process, ensuring smooth operations and athlete-friendly arrangements.
