Top-flight volleyball returns to Abuja this weekend as the CGC Nigeria Volleyball Premiership 2025 begins on Saturday, September 20, at Moshood Abiola National Stadium.

The tournament, which runs until October 2, will see Nigeria’s best volleyball clubs compete for national glory.

At a pre-tournament press conference, Nkechi Nzogwu, Chairman of the League Management Committee and Second Vice President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), said this year’s edition would be unique.

She praised the Comptroller-General of Customs for sustaining sponsorship, and NVBF President Musa Nimrod for expanding volleyball internationally, particularly in beach volleyball where Nigerian teams have excelled.

Representing the Comptroller-General of Customs, Director of Sports Samuel Onikeku confirmed higher financial packages for players and clubs.

Team subsidies have been raised from N300,000 to N500,000, while individual player subsidies also increased to N500,000.

A total of N24 million has been allocated for the first phase of subsidies, with the same support expected in the final stage.

Onikeku added that beyond financial backing, the Service was committed to motivating athletes and raising Nigeria’s profile in international volleyball.

The CGC Nigeria Volleyball Premiership has become one of Africa’s most prominent competitions, drawing attention to Nigeria’s growing sporting capacity.

From September 20 to October 2, defending champions and new challengers will battle in Abuja for the coveted title in what promises to be two weeks of thrilling action.
