The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has disclosed that the party is targeting at least 14 million registered members nationwide as part of an aggressive expansion drive to reposition it as a major political force.

He made this known on Tuesday at a South-West stakeholders’ meeting held in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Aregbesola said the party had begun a deliberate membership mobilisation exercise aimed at attracting committed Nigerians dissatisfied with the current political order, stressing that the focus would be on credibility and service rather than sheer numbers.

He described the membership target as ambitious but achievable through coordinated grassroots mobilisation and assured that the party was ready to invest the required resources.

He emphasised that the ADC was not formed to fight individuals or rival parties but to build a service-driven political movement that offers a credible alternative to Nigerians, from the zonal level down to states, local governments and wards.

To strengthen party structures in the South-West, Aregbesola directed newly inaugurated leaders to establish functional state leadership teams within two weeks, adding that national, zonal and state frameworks must be fully operational.

He also unveiled plans for a Grand Assembly of Genuine Progressives, a regional political assembly that will bring together 100 leaders from each of the six South-West states, with strong representation of youths, women and all local governments.

In his acceptance remarks, the National Vice Chairman (South-West), Akinbowale Omole, said the new zonal executive was ready to reposition the party across Yorubaland, pledging close collaboration with state structures to strengthen mobilisation and deliver electoral victories.

The meeting also featured the formal inauguration of national and zonal officers from the South-West.
